How Much Money Did Ash Barty Win Today
By winning her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, Ash Barty has been launched into the realms of tennis royalty as she further solidifies herself atop the tennis rankings and jumps into the top 20 highest earners in women's tennis.
Ash Barty's stardom continues to grow in the aftermath of her maiden Wimbledon title as she solidifies herself atop the women's singles rankings.
Barty's victory over Karolina Pliskova in Saturday's final made her the first Australian woman to win at the All England Club since her hero Evonne Goolagong-Cawley won in 1980.
The win has extended her lead at the top of the women's rankings placing her 2300 points ahead of world number two Naomi Osaka.
The 25-year-old from Ipswich has now spent 84 weeks as world number one which means she now holds the 10th longest streak for a women's world number one.
Barty pocketed over $3 million (AUD) which boosts her career winnings to $21 million (USD), according to the WTA.
By breaking the $20 million barrier she has climbed into the top 20 in the women's game.
Barty now sits above Osaka, Sloane Stephens, fellow Australian Sam Stosur and seven-time Grand Slam champion Justine Henin.
Despite the mammoth prize money she has earned, the 25-year-old has been praised for her down to earth attitude and no frills approach to the game.
"She's not one of those 'celebrity athletes' going out flaunting her millions and acting flash," former tennis player Sam Groth wrote in the Herald Sun.
"She's an incredible role model for our country. Humble and a true Aussie in every sense of the word."
Sky News' Paul Murray said Barty's humility was what made her popular.
"One of the things we like about Ash Barty, is that she hasn't got a tattoo saying 'I'm awesome' that she doesn't bang on on Instagram all day every day," he said.
Barty's next big task will be the Tokyo Olympics later this month where she will compete for Australia against the likes of Osaka.
She is a major contender for the gold medal which would further solidify her as the best in the women's game.
